ARTIST STATEMENT

My subject matter is wildlife, which I paint and draw in a realism style. My mediums include graphite, coloured pencils, acrylic and watercolour paint. I realized the impact of leaving space in my artwork to capture the simplicity of emotion on the animal’s face, which creates space for imagination and interpretation of each piece. For this reason, I put the majority of the detail into the wildlife subject, while leaving the background either out of focus or blank depending on the medium being used. Creating the foundation of each piece is quite strict but I find freedom and fluidity between the lines of the detail work, which allows for creativity and spontaneity. My goal is to bring awareness and appreciation of the world around us and to look for opportunities to give back to the animals we share the earth with.
